Chirping belt

Hi i bought this SUV a few months ago, a few weeks after i bought it i started hearing a subtle chirping noise coming from under the hood when i would accelerate. Took it back to the dealer and they said it was just a dry belt and sprayed something on the belt (they said it was belt dressing but the bottle said tire shine on it, the mechanic said the bottle was just labeled wrong but who knows). After he sprayed it i did not hear the sound for a few weeks, but i am beginning to hear it again. So is it just dry again, and so i should buy some belt dressing? Or is something more going on?

What is a $3.00 to $5.00 can of belt dressing going do to your budget?

Dry belt?

This mean it is sort of old?

Look at the backside of the belt (grooved side) where it sort of goes over a smooth pulley (pulley with no grooves). These pulleys kind of bend the belt backwards (per say) and spread backside open. Inspect this backside portion of the belt for tiny cracks in the lines (the parts that run in the grooved pulleys).

If you see these lines cracked open, it is time for a new belt.

Bundle the old one up and stick it in the trunk, put it in beside your spare tire, it might get you out of a bind in the future.

Thanks for the tip. The belt looks good, and I was going to just put some dressing on but I read on Dayco website that you should not use it on cars made after 2000 because they are made with EPDM. Any truth to that statement or do you think the dressing is safe?

Just to add to this one I do not believe in dressing the belt is glazed or the belt tensor is getting weak.

I mainly deal with vehicles with carburetors, normally having V-belts

Here and there, maybe something more modern
