My truck listed above 1500HD has a chime that won't go off if you go over 5MPH. It's not the seat belt chime. No lights on dash. The seat belt chime is intermittent, this is constant - a chime as if my doors are open or if i forgot my lights on. The dome lights go off when they're supposed to. I even tried unplugging the door latch to see if that was it.
The automatic lights don't work.
Thanks!

Hi,

There is a small switch in the key cylinder that may be stuck. Try spraying the cylinder lock with a small amount of penetrating fluid and then work the key in and out of the lock to see if that stops the chime.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks for your reply, Joe!
I just tried your recommendation - it didn't work. Though, my lock cylinder is incredibly worn out. I can take the key out while the truck is running. I am going to order a new set of keys and lock cylinder by VIN from GM tomorrow.
What is the switch in the cylinder for?

Thanks!

Jeb,

If the cylinder is that worn, that is the most likely cause. If you look at pic 1 below, it shows the small switch that is likely either broken or it isn't opening the circuit when the key is removed.

I don't know if you need them, but I also attached the directions for removal and replacement. Additionally, the pass lock will need to be reprogrammed after you have the new key/lock cylinder.

There are two ways to do this. One takes ten minutes but requires a scan tool that can communicate with the vehicle's computers. The other way takes 30 minutes but doesn't require a scanner. I attached both at the end of the removal and replacement procedures.

I hope this helps. Let me know how things turn out for you or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

The previous owner cut the parking brake cable, so it was incredibly easy to bump and leave the pedal slightly depressed. I would have thought there would show a parking brake light on the dash if it were on, but it didn't... I released the pedal, and the chime went away!

Thanks for all your info, I appreciate it!

Jeb,

Thanks for the update. At least it was an easy fix. I would have thought the light would have been on as well. LOL

Regardless, I'm glad to hear it's fixed. Please feel free to come back anytime in the future. You are always welcome here.

Take good care of yourself.
