1998 Chevy Venture Air filter

How do you change the air filter on a 1998 Chevy Venture. Is the design just totally ridiculous or am I missing something. I unfastened the 2 clips but can barley open because of the clutter in the engine. Is there an easy way to remove this filter that I am missing?

You have it right. It really sucks. You have to fight it and pull really hard, but it will come out. They are just as hard to install.
