I own a 1977 Chevrolet G10 van with the 305 V8 engine. I am the original owner (A title). It has just a few miles over 100,000 miles on the original engine. It is in remarkably good condition for its age and the fact that it has never been garaged. The interior is exceptionally clean and in good repair. It has two seats in front but has never had passenger seats installed. It was used almost exclusively for personal transportation and occasional transport of furniture. I would like to restore it and get it back on the road. I'm afraid that this could be a formidable challenge since it has not run in almost 10 years! I used it less and less as it developed starting problems (probably from inactivity). It has had no collisions, bumps or bruises. I had the timing chain replaced and new tires (now worthless but still fully inflated) just 50 miles before it stopped running. It does have a few rust holes in the skirt regions but nothing major. The paint is faded and has some general rust problems. OK. My question is this: How do I go about getting this car fixed/inspected and back on the road. I would ideally like to restore it completely but that is not possible at the moment. I've called a few garages but none of the conventional garages I've called have any interest in repairing a vehicle with as many potential problems as this one. Do I advertise for a mobile mechanic? Is this a repair issue or a renovation issue? I could really use the services of this van now.
