I need to replace the multi-function switch (turn signal/headlight dimmer/wiper/cruise/4-way flasher) on the steering column due to the 4-way flasher switch not working (it works if the stem is pushed to one side but will not stay on). I have the new switch $194! and have removed all covers steering column, knee bolster and metal plate to access the connectors. There are two multi-terminal connectors and one 2-wire connector. My Haynes manual says to pull the connectors apart but doesn't mention how. There seems to be some kind of catch holding the multi-terminal connectors in place. I don't want to break anything by pulling too hard on the wires or the terminal strip. How do I disconnect these terminal strips?

Thanks BMRFIXIT. I will try that as soon as I can get to it. I'll let you know how I do.
What kind of idiot designs a switch with so many functions (6)? When one part breaks you have to replace all 6 of them (at great expense!)

I was lucky to get strong sunlight in the right position to shine under the dash and light up a recessed bolt on the black box BMRFIXIT referred to. I wasn't able to see it at first due to the clutter of wires in the way and because it was pretty far in there. After unscrewing this bolt it was relatively easy to get the connectors undone.
The replacement part I got from one parts store wasn't the right one and the second one they ordered was wrong as well. I gave up on them and got my money back.
I finally got the right part from NAPA ($245!) and finished the job today.
