87 chevy s10 truck 2.8

some of those engine had oversize and regular lifter , were you sure to replace pushrods and lifters back in their original location ??? and is the timing correct???

i never removed the rockers, just loosened them and moved them aside. i took out the push rods, and maked them for position and yes they all went to original positions. i had just have the truck smogged so the the timing was correct, i put the distributor back to where i took it out of. thing is, i may have overtightend the rockers, because the lash was gone long before i finished tightening the rockers. i thought is should try loosening the rockers, then tightening just until the lash is gone then add 1/2 turn.
any comments welcome

as far as i know and i checked on gm soft ware the lash is checked by hand whike soinning the push rods , when they get tight stop, run the vehicle and recheck

that sounds right
do they have to be adjusted in any specific order
ie- intake 1,3,5
exhaust2,4,6 ???
some ive worked on(it's been a while) were tricky like that

the info is so old it doesnt say but i would guess it would be done with the valves closed one cyl at a time

hey jim you have been a great help, since its dark and cold where Im at the repair will start in the AM.

hey jim when are the valves considered closed?
push rod end up or push rod end down?
i got a manual, and it says the valves must be adjusted 1,5,6 and 2,3,4 but in the no 1 position
with valves closed. moving the crank shaft to the timing scale on -0- you are either in NO1 or NO4 position, no problem, just need to know when they arew visibly closed, and the lash i will just adhust by feel of the rod, i will adjust rockers just until there is no movement, does that sound correct?

yes it sounds close , and the #1 tdc should have both rockers up
