2002 Chevy Truck dimming lights

My lights will dim every once and a while and the interior lights also dim at the same time.The only the different that i have noticed is that the volt meter is running well above 14volts compared to what i am used to seeing it run at.Would you have any suggestions on what could be going on?At this time the truck is running fine but i do not want to wait for some thing major to happen before i do anything.

That is the opposite of what I would expect. IF it is overcharging, i would expect things to be brighter. What I need you to do is take the truck to a nationally recognized parts store and have them check the alternator. Let me know what you find.
