The master cylinder was low and my son cleaned it out with a rag and refilled it. It worked good for one day then the next day the clutch would not engage. I was was wondering on the correct procedure to bleed the clutch system.

bleed the clutch about the same as brakes. you blled it at the slave cylinder under the truck by the clutch fork. to work right the air has to be bled out.

that requires a special tool that you can probably buy at your local parts store, there is a half moon clip that you can probably get it off with a pick, make sure you push the line in to release the pressure (off the clip) when removing the clip

The easiest way to check it is see if both of the wires going to it have battery voltage with the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and key in the start position.

try on the fire wall the is a second master cylinder for the clutch .. bleed it there .

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BLEEDING
1988-95 Models
Fill the clutch master cylinder with the proper grade and type fluid. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
Remove the slave cylinder retaining bolts. Hold the cylinder at about 45° angle with the bleeder at the highest point.
Have and assistant fully depress the clutch pedal. Open the bleeder screw. Repeat until all air is expelled from the system.
Be sure that the fluid level remains full in the clutch master cylinder throughout the bleeding procedure.
Install the slave cylinder.

The clutch doesn't come up and would this possibly be a problem with the clutch master cylinder. It has fluid and line doesn't look like its leaking. Its my old truck and my son has it now in a different town from where I live. He need some direction on this. He says it works some of the time. It should not be the clutch itself. Please help with your best suggestion for some direction on this problem. Brian

With the limited information that you have provided I can only give you a few suggestions, if you push the clutch pedal in several times doesn't work? have you gotten underneath the truck to see if the slave cylinder is moving appropriately about 2 1/2 inches or 3? let me know the answers to my questions.

Hi there,

To replace a faulty slave cylinder will not cost to much if external (bolted on the out side of the transmission case), including re bleeding it should only take about 45Min You will have to cost the cylinder as i am not in America, so my prices will be invalid.

The spring on the clutch assembly broke. I would like to know what it looks like to make sure a piece didn't break off.
I would also like to know if there is anything else that would make the clutch pedal stay so loose besides fluid.

Thanks for any help you can be.

I am sorry I have nothing to donate as I have nothing to donate as I am on SSI.

My truck is a 1991 Chevy S10 4 Wheel drive, manual transmission with air conditioning. It has an extended cab. The spring on the inside clutch pedal assembly broke. I have ordered the part but it will not be in for a couple days and I would like to make sure a piece didn't break off and land in a place it may injure some thing else and is it hard to replace.
Thank you so very much.
