fuel gauge not working correctly?

Hello! Recently, the fuel gage needle on the dash of our Suburban has started to shake wildly. I have not been able to easily find any information on the subject. Could this be a bad fuse? A short in the electrical system? Does anyone have any ideas on where we should begin to isolate the problem?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Just to add a little information to this post the 1988-1999 old body style truck has a fuel pump ground issue that will make the fuel gauge vibration issue you all have mentioned. Here is a tutorial showing how to test wiring:

I would suggest you inspect the fuel pump ground wire to check for damage, corrosion, or anything else to ensure a good ground connection. I've attached a wiring diagram below of the fuel pump circuit and circled the ground wire in red. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
