my headlights, they do not come on?

I'm having a problem with my headlights. They do not come on when I turn the switch to on. However, my daytime lights stay on until i try to turn my lights on, then they turn off. what i have to do is turn my parking lights on at night time and just ride with the daytime lights. The truck is a standard and when i release the emergency brake, the lights automatically come on. i just replace the light switch in the cab and this did not fix the problem, so now i'm stuck with this new switch. Does anyone have any ideas?
