1995 Chevy Truck braking problem caused by power steering f

Hi Rick,

Can you post a decent pic of where the power steering fluid is coming from...not brake fluid?

Will the ps fluid shoot out if you are at a stand still and apply the brakes?

I'm thinking there are couple problems going on...

First thing is to get that leak fixed and then test drive for symptoms again. I am suspicious of warped rotors as well.

I've posted 4 pic's. Put arrows to show the area. Keep in mind that the leak is coming from the gap between the two parts underneath. At the very bottom. I tried to get a pic of the area with a mirror and circled it. It is ps fluid. I have to refill it quite often. Never have to fill the brake fluid. If you are at a stop and apply the brakes then ps fluid drains/heavy dripping from the area. You can see the ps lines in one pic and they are soaked right below the area. I know that the part attaching to the master cylinder is for anti-lock brakes and might cause the other problem if the pressure isn't being maintained. I'm worried about the rotors too. My bigger concern is that I'm having to drive the truck. I know Chevy will charge a lot of money. Thanks again. Rick

That looks to me like the hydroboost and if it is leaking, needs replacement and very well may be the source of the chattering from the brakes, from what research I have found.

I have a 95 one ton chevy van with the 5.7 L gas engine with what looks like the same booster as yours. Mine too is leaking at the same spot. My local chevy dealer wants $900.+ for a new one. I haven't found any after market ones anywhere. I'll be making a trip to the junk yard here in Hawaii soon as the rain stops.

Hi jjmm, I found the rebuilt booster at a auto parts store. I actually got mine at Pep Boys. I'm military and haven't been home long enough in the last couple of months to do the repair though. I have the part sitting on my bench in the garage.
