I have a 1993 chevy K1500 pick up. The four wheel drive will not engage. I was told that the actuator on the front differential may have gone bad. It is the original one one the truck. The truck has 148,000 miles on it. I was told that the original actuator had a gas in it that would be heated up by an eliment when engaged. The new actuatore is supposed to be all electrical. My question is: is it the actuator or the engagement switch that is bad. Or is the switch just to turn on the indicator in the cab?

Is it a manual lever transfer case? That year can go either way. In the early GM's the button was to disable the ABS so if half the vehicle left the ground the ABS wouldnt freak out. The front actuators were a HUGE problem (freezing up- just plain not working).

it is the manual 4 X 4 Lever on the floor. 4 wheel low does not work either.

I check the actuater and it was bad. I did not have to put the updated fast acting one on. My parts place had the original so I wouldn't have to run the new wire harness back to the transferr case.

Thanks for the help.
