Electrical problem
1981 Chevy Truck V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My first symptom were of course the headlights not working, well i figured that problem out by replacing a wire that was worn out due to weather. The lights work now but I use a multimeter to test the voltage at the battery and the alternator output. After installing the battery it started with 11.54 volts and my truck would not even attempt to turn over without a jump. So after the jump start the battery gradually goes down as the vehicle is running. The alternator is not even one day old as i type this and the battery has less than an hour of usage. I measured power on the alternator and found that i have three different voltages. On the two prong plug I have voltage that matches the battery and it runs to the starter, on the other prong I have 25 volts running to the fuse box. The single post terminal on the back is pumping an easy 70 volts that goes to a distribution terminal and then continues down to the fuse box. Are the voltages normal and why isn't my NEW alternator charging my NEW battery?

Get the alternator load tested its putting out more than is suppose to the range should be 13.5-15.5 volts only and killing the battery sooner or later the battery will explode
