Electrical problem
1980 Chevy Truck Manual

There I was, eating dinner, and my horn starts blowing.
I went out and pulled the line off it. What is the typical failure on these trucks? If it's a short down in the column, what 's the way to test for that and get at it?

Hey, there is probably a multiwire connector under the dash, close to steering column, that is for circuits going to and from the steering column. Take the connector loose, see if the horn still honks, if it does the problem is not in the steering column. Black wire wire is ground for the horn relay. Don't have location for horn relay. There is also a horn fuse in the fuse box. I'd look at the wiring at the horn button. In the past I have swapped out steering columns because of wiring issues, but, usually the wiring in the salvageyard part isn't any better than what you have.
