We have an old truck sitting out there and we rebuilt the engine around 10-15 years ago and its been sitting ever since. We are pretty sure that the starter sylinoid is bad because half the time when we turn the key we just here the fan. I tried to get the starter out of it and I took the two main bolts out, but it wont budge, its still bolted in place somewhere but everywhere I look on it there is no place where its fastned. The manual for 67-87 Chevy trucks has info for a diffrent starter so it is not helping me. PLEASE HELP.

Do you hear any clicking from the starter when you turn the key and do the lights dim or go off like they normally do on startup?

Could be the igntion fuse, ignition switch or the starter solenoid.

are you going to replace the starter
and if so go buy the starter and compare it to the one you have
do try to crank the engine by hand
place a socket on the crank damper center bolt and a long ratchet try to crank.
