Whining noise

Have you checked to make sure the ATF is full? I would change the filter because it will make a whining noise when plugged here is a guide to help you.

I just bought this vehicle a couple days ago and it is now making this high pitched whine when I accelerate. It seems to get worse in the cold and the rain. The whine is pretty loud, so I was just wondering if this is something serious that I should get a refund for, or if it is something small.

Was noise there when you test-drove the vehicle?

There's a lot of possible causes of a whine. With no other details or observations to go on, a common suspect is a noisy front wheel bearing.

There was a barely noticeable sound when I test drove it. I asked about it and the dealer told me that it was normal but now it is getting louder. I serviced the transmission and that helped.

You need a live mechanic to drive the vehicle and listen to what affects the noise. It could be a squealing belt on the engine, a noisy wheel bearing, even a dry bearing in the heater fan motor. Most used-car dealers offer a 30-day 50 / 50 warranty where they pay for half of a repair bill for unexpected things like this, but often that only applies to drive train problems.

I've just noticed recently that when you press on the accelerator there seems to be a whining noise from the engine. it's almost like when you turn a fan from low-high, or when a airplane is taking off. it seems you can hear it the most from 0=45 mph and then dies down a bit. The car appears to be running just fine, no caution lights are lit up on the dashboard. just this whining noise when you press on the gas. Any idea what it could be and how much it would cost to fix? thanks

If it is a very loud fan type noise, you will need to replace the fan clutch assembly and have the PCM reprogrammed.

would it be idler pulley? sounds just like mine.

I have an '05 short wheelbase Trailblazer LT with the 4.2L motor. It has an auto tranny w/4WD and about 27,000 miles on it.

It makes a whining or grinding noise that increases and decreases with engine speed and even does it at idle. Does nto matter what gear the tranny is in, it still makes the noise. It sounds exactly like the noise made when you turn the wheel on a car that needs power steering fluid. Only about twice as loud. (And yes, before you ask...I did check the power steering fluid level, the box and the lines. All look ok, no leaks and fluid level is where it should be.)

I have been told various things - fan clutch, belt tensioner, etc... I checked the serpentine belt and it looks good - no cracks.

If I open the hood, the noise generally seems to be coming from the driver's side of the engine compartment but I cannot pin it down.

I replaced the serpentine belt, belt tensioner and the idler pulley and the noise is now gone. Belt looked ok, but since I had it off, I thought I would change it out.

Funny thing is I don't remember the truck ever running this quiet. Wonder if it was a problem since new and just got mroe noticeable over time.

I couldn't beliieve it when I saw someone with the same make/model SUV and the same problem (whining/whistle) sound that I've had the last month. It was so strange when it happened, because I knew it never made this noise before. I have only 35K miles and have had no problems until now. I may try your solution and see what happens. Thanks.

Hi folks, I own a 02 Chevy TB, which has a whining noise in 4WD when decelerating only. The whine is not as loud in A4WD. The front diff & transfer case were drained & filled within the last 10K miles. Checked both fluids & ok. Switches from 2WD/A4WD/4WD without problems. Any ideas!? Thanks.

That is a normal noise. It should go away when in 2WD. Make sure your tires are all the same size,condition, and tread design. Make sure they all have the same psi. Those are some things that can affect the noise.

I have A 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with 78,000 miles on it. It has always made a whining noise when I accelerate, but of late the whining seems louder. Is this a concern? What causes this noise?

i have a 2005 trailblazer and mine was making a whining noise last fall. I posted a question on here and got 3 replys to check the idler pully. sure enough took it to the dealership and that was it. was in and out in less than an hour and it cost about $120.00. No noises since.

My trailblazer has recently been making a whining noise that is now getting so loud it is hard to hear when the car is running. It is also now making a slight rattling noise.

check the idler pully under the alternator,very common problem.does the whining noise change with rpm?if it does it's probably the idler pulley.

Vehicle is making a very loud whining noise under the hood. I thought the alternator could be going out. I unhooked the battery cables and the car continues running, so I have ruled that out. I am thinking fan belt or power steering.. But I am no mechanic.. Help is greatly appreciated.

Change your idler and tensioner pulleys. takes 20 minutes and about 50 bucks.

2006 Chevy Trailblazer. I recently noticed a steady shine from the engine that increases in volume as I accelerate. I can hear it while driving in the city but not as much on the highway. Turning the wheel has no effect on the sound. Any thoughts?

check the idler pulley below the alternator,they go bad all the time,very common problem.

At idle as well as acceleration my car makes a terrible whirr/whine, hard to describe. The only thing I do in the vehicle that affects the noise in acceleration however when I am on the freeway at 65 mph cruising or coasting then I can no longer hear the noise. I am not sure when it started but now it is so loud when I start the car or go through a drive through and sit there idling it is down right embarrasing and probably at a decible level that would damage the ears if listened to all day.

Check your serpentine belt, and the idler, tensioner, alternator, and A/C pulleys. Remove the belt, spin the pulleys, any binding or roughness means a repair.

After my car has been ilde for awhile, for at least four hours or more, when I go to start It, It will make a very high pitch whinning noise which will last for about ten seconds at least. Then It will start to whine down, almost like a siren. Then while I'm driving, I will sometimes hear that noise again. But very rarely does it happen when I'm driving. I'm wondering if this is something sirious and if this is something I could fix myself. I would appriciate any help!

Could be a slipping drive belt, a belt driven component bearing and tensioner-
