The AC COMPRESSOR clutch started making a loud screehing noise and appeared to be slapping on and off. The belt is in good condition. Is the clutch servicable, or could it be a relay problem? Please help!

What you are describing is compressor failure and locking up causing clutch to smoke. With engine off grab clutch shoe and try and rotate if it turns then it is clutch assembly.
