ECM problems

I have had the same problem with my 1999 Tahoe.
Replaced:
Mass air flow sensor
Cam and crank speed sensors
Computer
Distributor complete
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
Fuel sensor
Idle speed sensor
I have check all of my grounds, battery, and charging system, all OK

And I still have the same problem,
Check spark when it starts to shut down. My Tahoe still loses spark when it starts to shut off.
After market alarm ?
After market stereo ?
If you find any info please let me know. Thanks

Might want to try an ignition module. Sometimes when they get hot, they will short out.

hello im having a problem with my trucks ecm.

recently i had a fuel pump replaced. i drove the truck for a month with no problems. this past sunday the truck would not start at all. i had it towed to a repair shop and they told me they had to replace the fuel pump again. so they replaced the pump again under warranty and also the crank shaft position sensor.

i got the truck back and the same day went food shopping. returning home the truck shut down on me several times. i managed to get the truck back to the repair shop and they checked it out for me again and told me that the problem is the ecm computer. they say that when the truck is driven the computer gets hot and shuts the vechicle down.

ok, i know i must replace the ecm but the service number has been ripped off of the ecm. i tried to get the part with out the ecm numbers but parts stores tell me that there is nothing i can do with out the service number of the ecm.


i wanted to know if there is any other way i can get the service number so i can order the correct ecm for my truck?[/quote:6536f99728]

You can try using your VIN# at the dealer.

Just to add to the idea of how you know which engine control module to order if your tag with the part number is no longer there. Not only can you go to a dealer and provide your VIN and they will be able to look it up but there are websites that provide the same service. Also, the ECM on these vehicles were not VIN specific, they were build specific, so if you find a vehicle that is equipped the same then you can pull the part number from that module. However, the issue with this option is unless you are able to confirm the vehicle is equipped the same (power-train) you may not get the correct part number.

Clearly the best option is to consult a dealer and allow them to provide the correct part based on your VIN.
