the instructions are pretty lengthy and we can't copy them all, you are better of to get teh manual for your truck. this site has an online one available for minimal cost that you can print what you need.

what are some of the problem with replacing the water pump or removing the clutch fan

No problems with the right tools. The fan clutches are always hard to get loose but with some penetrating oil and a good clutch wrench or chissel it will come loose.

My water pump appears to be leaking fluid a little bit. I have noticed that it only leaks when the vehicle is parked for a while and the front is down hill. When it is parked on either level ground or the front is up hill it does not leak. What would cause this issue? Bad water pump or gasket possibly?

I need you to check something. Under the water pump, there is a small round hole. Is it a weep hole. When the seal or bearing goes bad in the pump, it will leak from there. Check it for evidence of a leak and let me know what you find.

I did not see the weep hole on the pump. Is their a website that has a fiche screen that I could check out for the replacement?

I just noticed my Tahoe is leaking water from what it seems to be the water pump, and the reason I'm saying "it seems" is because it is running down from where the pump is, but I couldn't positively say that it is from the pump because I can't see clearly if that's where is coming from. I know for sure is not leaking from any of the hoses or the thermostat housing. I started to disassemble all the components around to get a better view of the origin of this leak when I ran into the fan clutch, since it screws onto the pump, I couldn't loosen it because the water pump pulley keeps turning freely even with the belts on, so I was wondering if there is a special tool to hold the pulley or how it's supposed to be taken off. The pulley has four small holes around the pulley but it's such a tight spot that it is almost impossible to stick something in there to hold it while trying to take it off.

The pump is most likely leaking from the gaskets where it bolts to the engine. There are two special tools to remove the clutch, but you don't have to remove it to change the gaskets.

how do i diagnose a waterpump going bad or waterpump gasket gone bad? there is a leak comeing from bottom of pump and a "chirping noise" that sounds also like a bad belt. also it would be helpful if you could give me a time estimate on changing out water pump and/or gasket. and how hard is this job? THANKS ALOT

Hi:
There is a round hole under the pump that is most likely leaking. Check for the leak there. If leaking, the pump's bearing is bad causing the seal to leak. This is what happens on almost all waterpumps when they go bad, and yes they could make a churping sound.

As far as labor, it should take no more than two hours.

J and N said it best. Its the water pump. I just changed 2 out in 60 days on my truck trying to solve a leak. If your "ok" with working on your motor but don't want to get to crazy you should be able to do this in 2-3 hours. Just take your time and pick up a manual at Kragen, Chucks, etc. The Chilton's manual walked me through pretty good. You will most likely want to rent a tool to remove the fan or ask someone if they know a trick (someone told me it can be done if you do not remove the belt until after you've loosened the fan). The biggest problem I've found doing this yourself is draining the fluid in the radiator so not to poison mother earth. They've got to come up with a better way to drain those radiators! Let us know how you did!

i have 2001 tahoe a noise is coming from the front around the water pump. at first you could only hear when first start the car for around 1 min. or so.we had the replace and at first the noise went away. the next day the noise came back. then there replace the belt tenser(sp) and the noise came back.the water pump fan is tight and water leaks and it not running hot. please help

Did you mean the water leaks now, even after you changed the pump? If it is leaking, where is it coming from? Or where is it dripping on the ground when the tahoe is parked? Take the serpentine belt off and check the following--There is also an idler pulley that the serpentine belt runs around. Check it for any sign of wear,  especialy surface cracks. Check the air conditioner clutch pulley,if it has air of course. Check the powersteering pump for a bad pulley. While your at it you mine-as-well replace the serpentine belt it self. 100000 miles is an unusually long life for this belt.. Let me know what you find..  BTW- loosening and replacing the serpentine belt is not a difficult task. If you don't know how to do this, obtain a repair manual like a Haynes repair manual. This can save you a lot of money, and the fact that you did it yourself will reward you much more than money ever can---that's my opinion of course--- merry christmas

The price shoudl be around, $600.00+ depending on where you go and what the hourly labor rate it. Labor is $250-$285.00 and parts are $110.00 to $350.00.

I was told by a dealer that my bypass hose on my waterpump was leaking and needs replaced. I need help on how to replace it. Do I need to take any parts off my Tahoe? Where is the hose located?

First, if you are doing this yourself, you must locate the hose yourself. The by-pass hose the short hose located on the pump itself. Once you find it then you can determine what parts you must take off. Depending on your level of mechanical inclination and what tools you have this job is pretty easy. If you remove the fan and serpentine belt it will make the job easier.
While you have the serpentine belt removed, check it for cracks and missing grooves. If you find any, now is the time to replace it. Also, spin the serpentine belt adjuster and idler pulley by hand. Check for any worn bearings or grinding sounds from these pulleys. If any replace them.
Remember to drain the radiator coolant a little bit when replacing the bypass hose. This will reduce the amount of fluid that will spill when you remove the hose... Let me know how you make out.......
