At about 65,000 miles, my parking brake wouldn't entirely release. After several trips to the dealer, they could never fix it and suggested that I simply quit using it to avoid the problem. So, after about 2.5 years and 30,000 miles I never used the parking brake until the other day when I was parked on a pretty steep hill. Anyway, now I don't think the brake is releasing entirely and I have a horrible screeching noise from the front brakes that only stops when I turn the front wheels slightly either direction. Any suggestions?

In my opinion your emergency brake has not been disengaged for the 2.5 years and you have worn out the rears brakes which is causing the front brakes to work harder. Which in turn has either wore them out and you hear the indicator rubbing against the rotor. OR you have got the front brakes so hot that it has Crystalized the pads in front. Crystalixed pads means the pads are now harder than the rotors so the friction between them is greater and thus creating you screeching sound. Have your brakes checked and or repaired and Emergency brakes cables replaced. or freed up as it would be a safety hazard for you or anyobe else in your auto if you need to use your emergency brake and it does not work.
