1999 Chevy Tahoe how to set the ignition timing

I replaced the distributor on my Tahoe and wanted to dial in the timing but cant find the pointer on the block. I found the mark on the balencer. how do I verify the timing?

pointer should be right near the top of the harmonic balancer. look for a metal bracket with marks on it
