With our 2005 Suburban today we experienced the following on several random occasions... Driving 40-45mph in dry, straight, normal conditions... we heard a sound of some sort under/behind the dash and experienced a quick, slight pull of the wheel (left). At the same time, a light/indicator on the dash said either "stability system active" or "stability system activated." (it came and went very quickly...) First time it has ever happened, and it really only happened on one isolated 20 or 30 minute round trip at those speeds (but did occur a total of 3 times). Didn't happen again the rest of the day, including a good bit of highway driving.
All the research I did pointed me to a faulty/failing "steering wheel position sensor." Can anyone here help me with an expert opinion on this? If it is that part, can you confirm the repair procedure and part number? I found a GM number 26064468 that a local supply house crossed to another brand, but I haven't double-checked w/ a dealership. I saw where there were some changes in the suburban steering columns after 2002 (no column locks) so I wasn't sure if this part # might have changed as well.
