This light has been on for years. No kidding. Took it to a reliable individual who said it's a trick to get you to come in to the dealer. Runs great. Was stolen and got it back. Now putting it in in shape again and that 'check engine' light is keeping me from passing the smog test. Smog Dog says catalytic converter. Estimate on what it's going to take to get that fixed?Won't hold you liable for a ball park (lol). Considering smog test station that is certified to also repair rather than going to dealer. I'm a woman, okay. So I need a man's advice.

yes you don't need to go to a dealer to get this fixed. Have the place check to see if the converter is bad or not. it will give a low vacuum on the engine or it will rattle or it can just plain not work any longer. I would suspect with the miles you have on it then it is just plain worn out. there are replacements available for around $250-300 range for the part.
