How many miles on your truck??

166,000 miles. i also replaced the crankshaft positioning sensor today, and the ignition control module. it still turns over but no start. when it stops starting a few pops come out of the throttle body almost like its releasing compression

The pops out of the engine mean either a lean condition and not getting fuel or timing issue. Your truck has a plastic timing gear and they like to fail around your mileage. It's time to check fuel pressure if You can get a gauge. I'll tell you how to check for a bad timing chain when i know if you have fuel pressure. Good Luck

i have a guage and i checked the fuel pressure. it is 60 psi.

The best way to check your timing gear and chain is to roll the engine to TDC. Pull #1 plug an see that it is at TDC. Put a long thin screw driver in the spark pulg hole and make sure it is at TDC. Put a socket on the bottom pully.

Take off the distributer cap and see if the rotor is pointing to #1 cyl Roll the engine slightly back and forth. and see if you feel slack in the chain and see if the rotor moves with the motion.

If it doesn't then see how much. The slack shouldn't be over a couple of degrees when you rock it back and forth. Let me know

i checked the TDC and the cylinder and the rotor line up when cylinder head is at TDC. there is very little play in the timing chain. i am gonna go back to day one when this messed up. the truck has been in the garage for over a year. it was started every onnce in a while to make sure the battery wasnt dead. the day i went to register it, i drove it to a gas station 20 miles away. put 31 gallons of gas in and got a car wash(underbody wash and all). it was still running in the car wash. i drove it to emissions test center and got out of car while they tested. it passed test, and when i got in to start it I turned the key and the solenoid only clicked. tried to bang the starter to get it to start. didnt work. so i towed it home and replaced the starter. new starter in and tried to start and it just turns over and no start. after starter replaced: distributor cap, ignition coil, ignition module, crankshaft positioning sensor, checked fuel pressure with a guage, and checked the timing. STILL NO START. now maybe the PCM, but i was told it was rare for those to go out. oh ya i also get a 1351 code--Ignition circuit voltage high. so i still have no idea. maybe the camshaft sensor? is that possible? i dont know.

Hummm thats a bummer but at least you know it's not a major job like a timing chain.

It's a good idea to go back to basics agin. Sometime we all fall in to the trap of not seeing the forest for the trees.
