brake light switch had broken 4 times in the last 2 years. First 3 times I replaced it myself, fourth time I had it replaced by a local reliable shop. Each time it has lasted about 4-5 months and then broken. It is not just just failed to operate but mechaniclly broken inside the switch. What causes this and how do I get it to stop???

Hi Leipnitz. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like the switch is not adjusted properly or is at an angle. There is a mechanical stop that sets where the pedal sits when it is released. That stop must not be the switch. A second potential problem is anything that holds the pedal down too far could cause dragging and overheating brakes.

If the switch is at an angle to the pedal, the plunger will be pushed sideways. That can be hard on plastic parts.
