1989 Chevy Suburban What connects to your throttle besides

I was looking at my engine because it wants to die in drive at idle and noticed that there were 2 things that were supposed to be connected to the throttle assembly but one was broke off it looks like some sort of turn buckle that goes back to apply pressure on a black rubber accordian like device what is that device, what does it do, can it be causing my idle problem. You should know the suburban is the fully loaded silverado edition and i have done a complete tune up plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter, air filter, oil change, ect. please let me know what you think

the thing you are talking about is a transmission detent cable and it needs to be connected for the transmission to operate properly.

Is that why its fine in park And not in drive at a stop this is the same suburban with the oil gauge issue from a few days back I had the fuel pump checked and it was fine and I saw this could this also be my oil pressure issue, if i depress the gas pedal just a millimeter the oil pressure is normal i mean just a hair. What do you think thanks for your time

are you saying that oil pressure reads zero then when you press the gas it goes right to normal? if this is what your talking about then your oil pressure sending unit is no good.

Yes thats what i meant so one problem has nothing to do with the other? By oil pressure sending unit you mean what controls the gauge? or the oil pump? I am just wondering how serious the problem is should i bring it in immediately or is the engine ok just need something minor replaced? thanks so much for your time

yes its minor but you should fix it because your fuel pump is supplied voltage through this sensor and when it goes to 0 psi it shuts off voltage.

ive looked for the oil pressure sending unit is that an oil pressure switch? where on my engine would i find it 89 5.7l chevy 350 tbi? any help would be appreciated

THE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT IS LOCATED RIGHT BESIDE THE DISTRIBUTOR AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE.

and was i correct is assuming it is the oil pressure switch, i cant find a parts list that lists an oil pressure sending unit

if your truck has a idiot light then it is called a oil pressure switch because all it does is switch from on to off depending on oil pressure. if it has a gauge then its called a sending unit, because it uses a potentiometer inside to vary the voltage making the gauge move in various positions. so call it what you want. different parts guy call it different names. if it has 3 wires going to it and it looks like the one you took out then install it.
