Driveshaft Danger on the Freeway!

I have a 95 Silverado that was lifted before I purchased it and also has a 14 bolt heavy duty rear end which is not stock to my vehicle. While driving the other day the driveshaft flew off right onto the freeway. Now I have had this truck for over a year and have never had trouble of this kind before. I don't know if the length of the drive shaft is wrong, and in the manual it says to mark the driveshaft before you remove it to ensure correct re-installation....if it flew off then where do I start. I don't know what to do if I make a mistake someone could end up getting hurt.

i belonged to the rough-riders years ago, and we all had trucks that were lifted, your problem may have just been that the u-joints let go or broke, now, what caused it, old, bad replacement job, or when lifted (depending on how high from stock) the drive shaft might have to be lengthened or even changed to keep the correct angle so that there is not too much stress put on the parts. i would stop in at a 4WD shop or someone that lifts these trucks as a PRO, and have them check out the truck.

The nose cone shattered at the top that is made of aluminum I think and it probably just broke due to wear and tear and the stress the new form of the truck put on the parts calibrated to handle stock conditions. Thanks for the reply, being 23 and female isn't exactly easy in reference to mechanical. Aso soon as you open your mouth even if to ask an intelligent question.... peoples attetion tends to get diverted. Appreciate the response.
