Local Chevy dealer says past model years steering column issues resulted in new designs by 2008, so squeaking steering column is now unknown for 2008 model. Maybe wire or gasket inside. Dealer's lubricating the column has not fixed the problem. Cost to open up the steering column woud be minimum 4 hours labor. Is here any info on this problem or a GM tch advisory? Could problem be serious and warrant immediate invesigation and fix?

I believe the squeaking noise you are hearing is caused by a plastic cosmetics around the steering column, as you are turning your steering wheel with one hand take your other hand and see if you can move the plastic cosmetics to see if the squeaking sound goes away also try to re-adjust tilt steering wheel, if the steering column is not lose I don't think there's any danger if the steering column does have a little then you may run into some in the future.
