you need to find out what's causing the light. This video shows the job being done on a similar car but the process is the same.

Please run down this guide and report back.

Check Engine Soon light is blinking. Code P0300 Random misfire. Light does not come on at all while driving around town. Only comes on when on the highway at over 60 mph. The light blinks for several minutes and then eventually goes out. Then several minutes later it comes back on blinking again. When the light comes on, the truck continues to run smoothly and there is no indication that something is wrong. A tune up fixed it.

it may have come on because of a loose/bad gas cap, it must click 3 times after getting fuel. or check to see if your evap cannister valve is working, they get dirt and stick

2000 silverado, battery went dead over night I jumped it and it started right up but when I put it in gear it dyed but after giving it gas it started to idle correctly. The Service engine soon light came on. I got some different gas and checked the gas cap to make sure it was on right and not leaking any fumes. Than the next day the light went out but than came back on that evening. It stayed on for a couple of days than it just went off for a day and now it's back on and won't go off. The truck seems to be running great. Is there a way to reset the Service engine soon light. Because tomorrow It might go out while I'm driving I don't know.

Check engine light on

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on

Hello,

Ok, so what exactly is your problem.

If engine light is on and vehicle is drivable go by your local auto zone and have them pull codes they will do it free.... post codes here in forum.

I having trouble with my pickup sevice engine light I took it to a shop and they put there tester on and I have a vacuum leak they said chearge me a $100 to fix. A month later sevice engine light comes on again so I take it back now they tell both of my converters or bad charge me another $100 to test. Then they told me it would cost around $600 for them to replace both converters. I found a muffler shop and they only wanted $375 to chage both converters. So I had them change them but they couldn't reset the service engine soon light but they told me to disconnect the battery and the computer would reset the light well theat didn't work. Is there anyway it could be reset without going back to the shop and paying another $100. My pickup only has just a little over 100000 miles on it I talk with other chevy pickup owners and they said the have a lot more miles on there truck without no problems. Thanks John

Wow a 100 just to reset the code you can get a cheap code reader for 40 that will read the code's and clear them.Unless your state allows auto part's store's like auto zone to do that.

AutoZone doesn't charge anything to read trouble codes. But I had a similar problem with an '02 V6 Camaro. Cat converter went bad. Blocked exhaust,
exhaust manifolds got hot, had engine misfire. Replaced bad converter ( honeycomb mesh was in pieces on engine side of converter). Still didn't fix misfire. Still had engine misfire, especially when engine hot and under load (running A/C, had passengers, etc.). Replaced all ignition coils, SHAZAM!!, trouble fixed. Computer won't tell you if coils are bad, not smart enough. Coils are dirt cheap on eBay, I am not a seller of such parts. Before I replace coils, I replaced plugs and wires, but I was pretty sure that they were good already, and I was right.

You can reset a computer and clear all trouble codes if you disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and then reconnect it. Try it sometime, it really works. If after you do it, and you get a check engine light soon, you probably have an obvious problem.

you have to have the code erased if you fixed or think you fixed the problem before the light will go out. Alot of times the light comes on because of not tightening the gas cap at least 3 clicks after getting fuel.

I had to replace the purge valve solenoid to get mine to quit setting the light. The shop also smoke checked the system to be sure there were no leaks

Hey thanks for the reply. Yea I got the code read at auto zone. Although it wasn't much help. It showed P0300 which means Random/multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected. I thought maybe coil but, then again fuel pressure? could mean so many things. I was going to call the dealer and see if his costly scanner could be alittle bit more specific.

Check engine light is on and I have found that driving it is not what sets it, It comes on with the second key run/engine on cycle. Symptoms are an occasional jerk. What has to be done to troubleshoot this, and repair?

When the light comes On it means the computer has identified a problem within the engine management system, what you need to do is follow this guide for OBD 2 code/s-This is your starting point to find out what's causing the light to come On.

The truck will start and run fine with the service engine soon light on for several minutes. When the light goes off the truck will run rough and will not accelerate and then eventually dies. It will not even try to start unless you hold the throttle wide open but it will not stay running. You can let it sit for several days and then it will repeat the problem. Compression is good, timing is good, spark is good, fuel pressure is good.

Hi, check for trouble codes, if you haven't already? You should be able to get some mil codes, by using a jumper wire on the A & B terminals of data link connector. Turn the key till dash lites come on, no further. The mil start flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes. Below is a generic GM datalink connector.

I have checked for the codes but there not any stored. Only code 12 comes up which is a normal run condition. The original problem was the truck would turn over but not start. I had spark so I pushed the gas pedal to the floor and it started. It would idle but as soon as I hit the gas it would die. The problem got worse to where it would not start at all unless it sat for a couple of days. Not sure if the ECM could be giving me this problem.

If haven't already, use a gage and check fuel pressure. Some of the national brand autostore used to loan out a fuel pressure gage, if you don't have one.

What was the fuel pressure spec?? Maybe a computer issue. Use a scanner, look at live engine data. See if anthing is out of the norm.
