hello all, I have a 2000 silverado 1500 with a 5.3 v-8. For a long time now, it has had some idle problems. It would kick itself into a high idle randomly and the only way to get the idle to return to normal is to turn the truck off and wait for 20 secs or so. Then when it is restarted, it would idle normally. It may do this every couple mins or it may not do it at all. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and the MAF sensor which hasnt corrected the problem. It seems to raise the transmission shift points like on a cold engine while it is in the high idle. Seems to be getting worse as time goes on. Sometimes when started cold it is already doing it now to where as before it was after it had warmed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Possibly Intake gaskets?? or Idle air control?? or throttle position sensor??

Try cleaning out the idle air control valve and see what happens
