I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 240000+ miles on it. 2 days ago I started it and it started rattling and making grinding noises in park and in neutral but stopped making these noises in reverse and drive. While this was occurring, the clock, radio, air conditioner, power windows all went dead, but the electronic locks still worked. This may be unrelated but 2 days prior the tumbler went bad in the ignition cylinder and the key wouldn't turn. After using a bobby pin to get the ignition cylinder to unlock, the truck was dead and had to be jumped. It took a lot time for it to get enough juice to be able to start. Once I got it started it seemed to run fine until this second incident happened 2 days ago. Does anyone know what this might be?

Hi, I hate to rain on your parade, but with 240K+ miles on it, if it has been good to you so far, I'd say it's time for a 'bullet to the head', and move on to a newer, lower mileage vehicle. Anything could be wrong with this vehicle, even if well maintained. Wear and tear will kill any vehicle, given enough years and mileage, let alone usage. Maybe you could part out this vehicle, and use the proceeds to by a newer one.
