If the engine was running good, chances are it is fine. It sounds like a bad head gasket which is expensive but not nearly as bad as a new engine. If there is a lot of coolant mixing with the oil, I wouldn't run the engine. It will cause damage to the bearings...

how expensive is a head gasket ? I think a complete gasket set is about $150.oo ? DONT buy the cheap gaskets ... spend the money ONE time and check your heads to see if they are warped, burnt, cracked or rebuildable
