1995 Chevy Silverado

i have a 1995 chevy silverado 1500 half ton 2 wheel drive. ill be driving down the highway and out of nowhere my rpm guage will red line, but my truck does not move any faster. so i let off the gas pettle and gradually accellerate. then about ten more miles down the road it will do it again. now when im sitting at a traffic light or stop sign it will idle really low and die. or ill be braking getting ready to stop and my truck will hesitate or almost shut down and all my dash lights will come on, and my headlights dim. also when i start my truck after sitting for the night, and pull it into reverse it will die before i even give it gas. can you tell me what needs to be done please?
