1990 Chevy Silverado rear diferencial

When I set the truck in revers a make a clonk noise, I see a lot of play in the drive shaft also when I stop and start to drive again he make the noise again ,is something is goin on with the rear diferentioal or a may be something with the trasmition? Thanks
