I have a 1987 chevy s 10 pickup truck, I just put a new oil pump on it. My question is do you need to put a gasket between the oil pump and the block??

No they are machined surfaces. But prime pump take cover off pack with grease or petrolium jelly so it will pick up quickly on startup
