1985 Chevy Silverado hydralic clutch

Do you have any free play in the pedal, how far does the pedal go down before pressure is felt? do this with your hand to judge it better.

peddle is hard and about 1" freeplay

Can you measure the clutch slave cylinder movement with the pedal down, how far does the slave move in total? does the clutch fork feel loose, did you check and lube the release bearing movement on the nose of the transmission? did it have free and non binding movement?

1" travel, the fork is not loose yes lubedand it slid free.

OK, just trying to locate your can on Mitchell 1 data base, and a silverado does not come up for Chev in that year.... as i am in Australia i don't know what else it may come under, was told a C1500 but that was not there, is there any other I.D that you can help me with here,

Recheck and test the clutch master cylinder.

checked master cylinder & bled the system from the slave cyl. have a hard peddel about 1" freeplay in peddel. 1" travel in slave cyl.

Well after all that messing around i found what i was looking for,and you say that you have about 1" travel at the slave cylinder, well that is what i was looking for, so as far as i can ascertain so far the hydraulic system is working correctly, so i am wondering if there is a problem with some form of contaminate on the clutch surface.

Further to that last post,

With new clutch assemblies, the pressure plate is coated with an anti rust compound, if so was this removed?
i feel that this will be a mechanical issue with the clutch assembly, i do think that the box will have to be removed and the clutch ass inspected for any faults.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner had some computer issues. I am pulling the box tomorrow, will let you know what I find. George

We have a job at work with similar problem, fairly good pedal feel good through at the cylinder, we pulled the box to find that the clutch fork was cracked and bending rather than operating the clutch, main problem was the fork pivot ball was not lubed and that was where the crack started, it had a new clutch not long ago, the mechanic didn't re lube the pivot, this was a 2 WD Toyota Hi-Lux.

Pulled the box Thursday and didn't find anything wrong. The clutch fork is OK and the pivot ball is well lubed. Clutch disk is in the right way all looks good. the pressure plate measures 1/4" higher then the old one don't know if that makes a difference. The clutch set came from NAPA Auto Parts and they only listed one for the year of my Truck. I've been rained out the last two days, so when it dries up I'm going to the chevy dealer and have them look at the old and new clutch to see what they think. I'll let you know.

HI George, late night here it's 3-30 AM, well i think that the pressure plate is going to be the fault, i get a few different part No's depending on which V8 engine, this may help.

I've been through this very same thing. The problem is I can't exactly remember. Been so long. I had a wrong part. For some reason I want to say pressure plate was wrong for disk. I remember every symptom you're describing. Had to get the rpms up high and shift as they dropped so I wasn't having to force it in gear
Engaged pretty close to the top. My best friend who's past actually figure it out. 2nd time Trans came out. Hope I'm wrong in your case.
