Hey I have a c10 silverado and everytime I run a electrical diagnostic it comes back as charging system problem. I replaced the starter and also tested the wiring. The new alternator is kicking in only when I ground out the black wire which is in the number one port on the alternator and it kicks in yet still doesn't put the power back to the battery. It still reads 12 volts. When I tested the red wire from port two no power came on on my test light. My tech said to jump a wire from the battery to the number two port on the alternator and it should work yet to not keep it like that but to run a fusable link. Could that be the problem with it or do u think it's more. It's an old truck and just wish to get it running right.

You mechanic sounds right. However, it needs to be a fuseable link in the event of overcharging. And it's not too old. I have a 78 stepside that has been in storage for the last 10 years. I redid the entire thing.
