S-10 Chevy.

[b] Can any one explain how the clutch works on the air conditioner on a S-10 Chevy truck, 4 Cy. eng.
It was working fine, and just quit, all works but the clutch will not engage. I shure would appreicate some help. I am new at this and may not do it all right. thanks. :D [/b]

First you must have a full charge of refrigerant. The A/C switch is turned on which energizes the A/C relay. The relay provides power to the low pressure cycling switch; if there is pressure the circuit is completed to the clutch. Most probable cause; low refrigerant charge.

Thank you for the responce, I checked the freon, and it was ok, it was in the blue on the gage.
but the clutch still will not kick in. Every thing seems to work ok except the clutch, it just don't engage. Thanks in advance for your response. :)

Is the refrigerant in the blue on the low or high side with or without the compressor on?? If you are using an inexpensive detector it won't work because the system must be running for it to be in the blue. If is in the blue with the system off you are very low on refrigerant.
