metal shavings

Could it be possible that you have a magnetic dipstick? Check it out, that could be why you aren't finding the shavings in the oil. Shavings ussually scare me cause it could mean bearings wearing out. Have you noticed any tapping or knocking that you didn't have? Has your oil pressure dropped at idle?Bigger pieces of shavings could be peices of bearings coming apart. What are you driving and what motor,etc?

i am driving a 92 S10 blazer,has about 220k on it,there is no knocking or anything like that,it did have vavle rattle on accelerlation,but that went away with engine flush and oil change.it really runs good except for the erratic idle speed, it almost seems like its going to die but dont

I'm not gonna swear to it, but you still just may be due for a rebuild considering the miles on it. With no knocking or anything yet there probably isn't any bad damage internally, but seems like prime time for rebuild. Only place I can think of that metal shavings are coming from with that many miles would be bearings. v-6 or v-8?

its a V6,i was thinking of getting one for junk yard and going through the hole thing,put some hop ups on it and be ready to go when this one gives

Sounds like good idea, but if you don't have to have this one going I would use this motor as you know what you have and put the goodies in this one. Have it bored .030 over, pistons to match, decent cam,etc. That is if you can have it down for the duration. If not just make sure you get a good block from that junkyard, everything else you can re-work. Good luck and hope you get a lil' screamer :twisted:
