ignition key

I started the truck and when I went to shut it off the ignition wouldnt turn off . It like just locked in place and I cant get the key out. I got the ignition switch out but dont know why I cant get the key out it is just stuck there Can you tell me how to get that key out and what happend to it? Its a 1989 Chevy s-10 pickup 2 wheel drive no power stearing
