Clutch problems

Hi there,

You may have air trapped in the master cylinder, try bleeding at the master cyl pipe first, also check that the master cyl is not leaking, you will have to check up under the rubber boot where the push rod is, if leaking replace and re bleed. Is the slave cylinder serviceable, same check.

there isnt any signs of leaking from the mater cylinder and the slave looks to be servicable
what hose do i take of for trying to bleed the master cylinder?
right now im trying to gravity bleed by leaving the valve open and refilling the resavor

Hi there,

make sure everything is tight pipe unions, bleeder. fill reservoir, depress clutch and crack open pipe or hose at master cyl, when foot is on the floor close pipe and then release pedal, do this a few times watch for good fluid flow and no air bubbles, re bleed at slave cyl, use a clear plastic tube into a clear jar with some brake fluid in it, this will help stop ait being drawn back up the bleeder hose. Depress clutch, open bleeder and close when foot is on floor, don't raise foot untill bleeder is fully closed. If this is not successful you may have a master cylinder by passing fluid internally, but we must also eliminate any mechanical problem as well, see how you get on and re post if you need more help.

the bleeder on the slave does not have anipple to attache a hose, but there is a good steady stream coming out of the slave when depressing the clutch pedal, there are no visible leaks so would you say that its the master cylinder then? like i said you can sea the slave rod and it does extend about half an inch. what are your other thoughts on this???

Hi there,

when you start to depress the pedal, is the rod at the slave cylinder moving at the same time? if so how much free play can you feel when you move the clutch fork with your hand? As i am working on the principles of basic clutch hydraulics, if the system is sound, which i believe it is, it doesnt sound like a faulty master Cly, a good test is to depress the clutch select 1st gear and leave the clutch down, a faulty master cylinder that is by-passing will start to creep as the fluid is displaced and the clutch starts to engage while your foot is still down. Did you check the relative heights of the pressure plate fingers, as the thrust bearing the same, not thinner, at it is starting to sound like something mechanical, as if there is to much clearance between the thrust bearing and the pressure plate. I am not sure if it should have a fixed length push rod or an adjustable one. Do you still have the boxes the bits came in? if so try and re check the part numbers to make sure that you have been sold the correct parts. Something is not right and i feel that you have proved that the hydraulics are OK. I have just re read the initial post again, and it is the excact same problem? IF so do the tests in this post that should rule out the hydraulics, one last thing is there free play adjustment on the master cylinder push rod, check that with the pedal fully up, push pedal with your hand gently until you feel the free play take up, make sure that all your free play is not there. let me know, good luck.
