S10 started howling loudly, sound gets louder as the engine speed increases. Problem started while driving without overheating, warning lights or loss of oil pressure. Problem occurred once previously but, the engine returned to normal after a few hours of sitting. Appreciate any help...

Does the sound seem to be metallic or does it sound more like wind?

I need you to open the hood with the engine OFF. Try to turn the fan that is attached to the waterpump and run by the serp belt. If it is hard to move, the fan clutch is bad. Do this when the engine is cold.

Let me know what you find.

If you have a fan clutch, and I think you do, chances are the clutch is bad. Because I am not there to see it, I can't be 100% sure that it has the clutch fan (some do and others don't), unless you can take a picture of it and upload it to me. Otherwise, you will need to ask a mechanic.

Let me know.

Thank you for the info, I will start with the fan clutch. I have also had a Ford F150 do the same thing when the air tube on top of the catalytic converter rusted through. So I am going to chaeck to see if the chevy has a similar setup.

Thanks again for your repiles!
