2001 Chevy S-10 intermitant overheating

The truck had a cracked radiator so I replaced it. It never got hot before (until the water was low). Since replacing the radiator, radiator cap, thermostat, water pump, the truck intermitantly gets hot - up to about 240.

The fan clutch appears to be fine. This is the only thing I haven't replaced. I checked the hoses to make sure they weren't collapsing and they are fine. I jacked the front of the truck up to get the air out of the engine and believe that I did.

I am stumped - what am I missing????

Ok this may sound redundent but have you checked it to make sure the radiator is completely full. You may have a air pocket at the thermostat.

I have done that 2 times. It never took any more fluid.

Ok so what kind of thermostat did you get? It may be that the thermostat is sticking sometimes. Get back to me.

The thermostat is a 195 degree - I do not recall the brand name.

Ok that is the temp it should have. Do you have access to an infered thermometer? If you do then check to see what the temp is it may also be that the temp sender isn't sending the right signal. When does it get hot? Is it only when you climb a hill or sit in traffic or?

Did that. It registered 240. I have even changed the catylitic converter and nothing! Just yesterday i put in a new fan clutch and a cooler thermostat (165) and it still is getting up to 210.

correction - is getting up to 230 and it should be at 210.

Go back to the 195 thermostat. With a cooler stat you will get very bad mpg. Now with that I would like you to check the upper hose temp compared to the lower hose temp at opperating temp. Let me know what you find.
