are you sure you are testing the small wire at the solenoid. that should have 12 volts when the key is turned to the start position

2001 Chevy S10 Xtreme 2.2 4cyl w/ 64000 miles. My problem is that when I turn the key to the start position, the engine doesn't even try to turn over. All of the electrical indications on the dash seem to work just fine and the lights work and don't dim when trying to start. There just isn't any response from the engine itself. No noise at all. It started as an off and on thing, and have been trying to figure it out myself. I had the battery and the starter tested, and both tested positive (works great). When my truck does start, it starts with no hesitation or roughness. It's becoming a more frequent thing and I'm worried that it might decide to not start at all. I replaced the battery and the alternator about 4 months ago due to the alternator failing. Does anybody have any idea what this might be?

the engine doesn't even try to turn over: 1.does it crank over and refuses to start or 2.nothing happens when you turn the key to start?

2.Sounds like a probable cause with ignition switch starting circuit/neutral safety switch/starter relay or we're right back to a no good starter.

This guide would help

Thanks for the suggestions. As for what it does when you turn the key... nothing. All the interior gauges and lights come on, but the truck doesn't even make a noise. No clicking like a bad starter usually does, not even a single click like it's trying.

At the starter solenoid there's small terminal mark S with a purple wire maybe no sure now a days on its color. Turn key to start position and check that wire for power-power there you have a problem with the starter. do this and we'll take it 1X1 all the way to the ignition switch.

Electrical problem
2001 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive 121000 miles

I have a S10 pickup truck that won't start. It it will click and there is no power, no lights. When I unplug the battery and then plug it back in, the truck will start fine. This works for about two weeks and then have to unplug the battery again. What could be causing this?

Hello, I'd make sure the battery has a full charge and the battery cables/wires are all clean and tight on both ends. When you say no lites, are you talking about the dash lites?

If you have a starter relay in the power distribution center, you can check the circuits going to the relay, when the event occurs. The voltage for the control side of relay, goes hot with the key in the crank position. The voltage for the load side of relay is hot all the time. Any testing make sure the tranny is in park or neutral and the e-brake is set.

I have an intermittent problem. About once every two weeks, when I go to start my car the accessories turn on fine, but when I go to start the engine I hear a "click". When this happens I have no power.

What I mean by "no power" is The interior lights dont work, the dash board goes dark as does the radio.

There are two fixes that I know of: Jumping the car or disconnecting the battery. If I discontect the battery, the time between failure is two weeks. If I jump the car the period beteween failure gets closser together until it won't start at all. Any thoughts?

So far I have clieaned the ground wire where it attahces to body and the battery terminals

I'd check the feed going to and from the ignition switch, maybe some of the others will have ideas.

Try turning the engine with a 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar 360 degrees on the crankshaft pulley bolt with the belt removed. If it rotates 360 degrees, then you know the engine hasn't seized due to internal damage. Removing the drive belt takes the accessories out of the equation. If it rotates, install belt and rotate engine crankshaft another 360 degrees. Let me know what you find. TY

2001 chevy s10 blazer wont start.95% of the time everything is great. About once a week it wont turn over. The lights come on for the dashboard and warning lights, but when you turn the key it doesn't turn over or make any noise @ the starter. It has a good battery with good connections. It has a good alternator. It has a good starter.I have been jumping the starter and it starts and runs. The last two times however it would crank excessively before starting (fuel pump?).Since the onset of this problem, I knew the bat and alt were good,I did change out the starter, thinking it could be the solenoid or bad spot in motor. Now I'm on the second starter with the same problem.I have checked all the fuses and relays but like I said everything works great like it should even after the problem happens and I get it restarted.

On one occasion, I was going down the highway, hit a bump and it stopped running. I jumped the starter and continued home. One of the last times it stopped I couldn't get it going at all, that's when I dropped the tank, checked the connections and wires on the pump.I thought that it might be the fuel pump or possibly the ignition switch if it is in the starting circuit.I couldn't get it started and I was home so I let it set for two days. It rained those two days. The next morning I tried it for the heck of it and it fired right up like there was never a problem. In the last two days It will start then die after you start to go somewhere usually right in the middle of the road. These are the last two times it has become more difficult to get it started (excessive cranking).Could this really be a sporadic fuel pump or would the ignition switch be more likely?

Check and test the following: the starter, starter relay, clutch switch/park and neutral switch/transmission position switch and ignition switch assuming the battery condition and connections are good. Note:If it doesn't apply disregard.

Have you checked to see if there is spark and fuel to the engine? Also, if there is no spark, have you checked the coil?

Yes. That click is usually the solenoid energizing but not engaging.

Try jumping between the large cable and the small cable. If that turns the starter, you have a bad solenoid/bendix.

Hi:

If it died, either fuel or spark will be missing. Check for both and we will go from there.

Let me know what you find.
