2000 Chevy S-10 belt tension idler

i installed a new serpentine belt. i was able to depress the belt idler pulley fully by hand, no tool required. is that normal or do i need to replace the tension idler?

The main thing is can your move the belt or a pulley? Is it within the specified stretch limit? Look on the tensioner for 3 different markings, two of which will be on one side while the other is the indicator, looking somewhat like this........

As long as the one mark is between the two marks you should be ok as long as you can't turn any pulley's by hand. Normally tensioner are tight but not excessive, if it's too loose it will squeel (spelling) and make funny loud noises.
