1999 Chevy S-10 replacing valves

I just bought a new s 10 blazer. After a few days it overheated slightly on my and I realized that it did not have any coolant in it. i filled it up and no more problems. Than I was on a road trip shortly after and I lost all compression in my number three cylinder. I started ripping in to it and found a broken rocker arm on the number three cylinder but that did not fix the problem. My question is dose this sound like it is the valve that is bad, and if so what kind of effort dose that take to fix? My repair manual has got me far but dose not go into this problem.

first thing is to check the compression. If you have good compression-120 + pounds then you should be ok. If you have less then you have to take the cylinder head off to see what is wrong. If you broke a rocker arm check the push rod to see if it's bent. Your valve aslo may not be opeinging as well so you need to find that out. Your manual if it's a repair manual should tell you how to pull the cylinder head. There are few things you need to check
