My truck is loud. It was given to me from my father about 2 years ago, in great condition. I've gotten it's oil changes, as necessary, but that's it. No mileage maintenance done since I've had it.

Over the past 6 months or so I've noticed that the truck is getting louder and louder. I opened the hood this morning after letting it idle a little and it was just so loud, like it was a giant F150 or something. It drives fine, but has lost some power in pick up. I only put Chevron gas in the truck.

The truck is louder for the first five minutes or so, then seems not as loud after driving its. I live in S. Florida, so i don't know if the heat has anything to do with it. The truck also idles a little high for the first minute after being cranked it it's been sitting for more than a couple hours.

The truck does not smoke, but there is a slight weird smell that is not familiar to me, that the truck didn't have when my father gave it to me. I don't know where the smell is coming from. The smell is of an exhaust scent.

Could there be something going on with the catalytic converter? What test would you suggest regarding a possible loud engine/exhaust problem

take it to a pro you may have a cracked exaust manifold or broken exaust pipe.
