Heater problem

1998 chevy s10 had a problem with truck not throwing hot air,now if you are sitting still with the truck running it will not throw any air. As soon as you start going down the road the truck will start throwing air, but a/c air only, no heat, and i cant control the speed. I thought maybe the selector knob was worn out, but checked it out and its fine. Please Help fast, winter is right arount the corner, and im clueless. This happened before and it fixed itself, but i dont think its gonna happen this time.
