Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 98 Chevy S-10. The truck has been running fine with no problems. Came home from work Thursday and now the truck wont crank. Whenever I turned the key on, I would hear my fuel pump kick on but now I do not hear it.. Check all fuses and relays and they are all good. Do I need to replace the fuel pump or is there a fuel pump cut-off switch? It there is a cut-off switch, where is it located?

hi, thanks for the donation. I'd use a gage and check fuel pressure, engine cranking. If nothing, I'd check for good voltage and ground at the fuel pump connector. Gray wire is voltage, black wire is ground.

There is no cut-off switch. If good voltage and ground at the fuel pump connector and no pump action, suspect the pump.

Thank you for the fast response. I went and took my bed off to look at the pump itself, I disconnected the wires, turned the key on and checked the connections with a test light. I have power coming to the pump, so I suspect the pump went out. I guess I have to go ahead and eat the 320 bucks for a new one.

Was it the gray wire you check for voltage? At key on, that only be hot a few seconds. There is good ground? One way to check for chassis ground, is to use a testlite connected to battery voltage, touch the black wire, if the lite comes on the ground is good. I don't use a 12 volt lite on ground that goes to computer.

I went ahead and bought a new fuel pump. I put it in yesterday and my truck fired up. I had to change out one of the wiring harness. But now my truck is back up and running.
