I had just replaced the drive belt and tensioner because the tensioner failed. I am now getting a squealing sound. I checked the belt path, all is good. I checked the pulleys for tightness, all good. Any suggestions?

Does it appear that any of the pulleys are glazed? Also, could anything like coolant or oil be getting on the belt?

Let me know.

I pulled the belt off yesterday, checked it and the pulleys, all were good. no glazing or anything. taking a closer look, it sounds like the power steering pump pulley or pump itself. the sound happens at idle and when applying the gas pedal. But when i let off the gas pedal, it goes away.

When you had the belt off, did any of the accessories seem to have excessive drag?

the alternator, idler, crank shaft, and water pump pulleys all turned fine. the power steering pump didn't turn as freely as the others, but it did turn. is there an amount of free turn it should have? also, is it possible that the pulley bearing itself is going bad and not the pump? I have not noticed any leaks, but the pump is original with 173000 miles.

It could be going bad. Did you notice any play in the bearings? Also, if you turn the steering with the engine running, does the noise get worse? Also, if you turn all electrical components on, does it change? Did you check to see if the water pump had any play or bearing noise coming from it?

If you have a belt noise, check to see if there is anything on the belt. Often times a leaking water pump can get a little coolant on them, so check that too. Make sure the tensionier is doing its job and the belt is tight. Also, inspect the belt for wear and glazing.
